    Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are happy to announce that on April 10th we will begin our annual whole school family reading event! Every family will receive a copy of the book Fenway and Hattie by Victoria J. Coe and will be asked to read it on a schedule which will span the next few weeks. We encourage you to do your best to try to create a time for your family to participate in this special activity.

Our main character, Fenway, is an excitable Jack Russell Terrier. Hattie is his favorite human.  It is a story of true dedication and friendship told from Fenway’s point of view. Readers will follow along as they both learn to see things from the other’s perspective.

Reading aloud at home is a valuable tool in helping your child become an effective reader. It is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. Each time we do this event, our goal is to build a community of readers at our school. Everyone- students, parents, teachers, and even administrators, will participate in this event!

In school there will be a variety of class and whole school activities which will help us to discuss and explore the book. Click on the links to the left for our event resources, including recordings of teachers and administrators reading each chapter!

Our goal is for everyone to be excited and talking about our book. We hope that your entire family enjoys this reading adventure. So let’s continue to build a community of readers as we embark on this special project together!

    Sincerely,

    Dianne Connolly, Principal
