Welcome to Third Grade!
We are looking forward to a fabulous year!
Writing
We will be crafting our third graders into wonderful writers. They will be learning to write in a variety of genres and using the writing process to proofread and edit our work. Students will be learning writing mechanics such as grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary along with learning to use tips and tricks from some of our favorite authors. Students will learn to take ownership of their writing and create voice while they publish their own pieces.
"If you don't see the book you want on the shelf, write it"- Beverly Cleary
Reading
Our third graders will be engaged with high interest texts during Reader's Workshop. They will be diving into character studies, author studies, research, and book clubs. Third grade is a transitional year for students - students transition from learning to read to reading to learn and we look forward to joining and supporting the students on their journey to becoming stronger readers.
Math
We will be teaching the students mathematics using innovative and exciting techniques. It is our goal to make math relatable using manipulatives and real life experiences. It is an exciting year where students learn new skills such as multiplication, division, fractions, and geometry. We strive for each child's success as we venture on this journey together.
Social Studies
The world around us is an amazing place! In 3rd grade we study our country and the world around us as we explore the various continents, cultures, geographical features, governments, and the impacts these have had on history and today.
